Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau fired John McCallum, the country's ambassador to China.
The firing of McCallum came shortly after he told Chinese language media that Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou had some "strong arguments" about avoiding extradition to the US. Meng getting extradited "would not be a happy outcome," he said.
Meng has been detained in Canada since Dec. 1 for allegedly breaking U.S. trade sanctions.
