The nonprofit camp, located in Purdy, is for children with special needs and was the focus of the reality show’s Oct. 16 episode. The television network, local businesses and more than 3,000 volunteers renovated the camp in a week, creating a new home for directors Paul and Cyndy Teas, a volunteer bunk house, a media center, sewer and underground electrical lines, asphalt on the main road and improvements to the camp’s high-ropes course and playground.
“Extreme Makeover" producers submitted the Camp Barnabas episode to be screened by Emmy voters. Nominees were announced July 6.
The show, which begins its fourth season this fall, has been popular for its emotional storylines that follow families – often dealing with illness or tragedy – in need of new homes.
Emmy winners will be announced at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 on NBC.
