The California Senate passed legislation to put limits on the so-called gig economy in a move that could set a precedent for similar action across the United States.
The passed bill, which heads back to the California State Assembly for amendment approvals, is designed to make it more difficult for workers to be clasified as independent contractors.
Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart and Postmates are among companies that would have to classify workers as employees, a change that should boost pay.
