California Gov. Gavin Newsom asked the state's 40 million residents to stay at home indefinitely amid coronavirus concerns.
“I can assure you home isolation is not my preferred choice, I know it’s not yours, but it’s a necessary one,” Newsom said, noting residents “can still take your kids outside, practicing common sense and social distancing. You can still walk your dog.”
Newsom said in a letter to President Donald Trump that the virus eventually could infect more than half of the state's population.
