Calendar: Ozarks Public TV holds membership drive, seeks volunteers

Dec. 6–7

Missouri State University’s theater and dance department presents its fall dance concert, Reflections, at 8 p.m. both evenings in Coger Theatre at Craig Hall. The presentation is choreographed and performed by MSU students.

Dec. 8

Forever Endeavor Productions LLC presents Dan Magnum’s Fourth Annual Rock and Roll Christmas to benefit Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks. Doors open at 7 p.m. Bands and artists include Nathaniel Carroll and the Carrollers, One Star Story, Attie Beck, Capture the Sea, Losing to Apathy and Jesse James Wax Museum. Through Dec. 14

The White River Centennial Painting Celebration continues at College of the Ozarks’ Edwards Art Gallery in the Ralph Foster Museum. The juried show features a variety of paintings submitted by area artists that reflect the beauty of the Ozarks, including the C of O campus. Viewing is free and open to the public. The short film “A Road Less Traveled” is shown at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in Academic Building Room 105 on the Evangel University campus. The film is about a young man who reflects on his life and choices, and how lifestyle, relationships, education and family work together to bring about a change. Tickets will be sold at the door for $3; the public is welcome to attend.

Through Dec. 30

Silver Dollar City’s annual Christmas celebration, An Old Time Christmas, continues at the park through the end of December. The festival, profiled as one of the top Christmas celebrations in the country by USA Today and People magazine, features the Holiday Light Parade, the five-story Special Effects Christmas Tree and the park’s production of A Dickens’ Christmas Carol. The park is open Thursday through Sunday 1–9 p.m. and Saturday noon–10 p.m. The park is closed Dec. 24-25. Information is available through the park’s Web site, www.silverdollarcity.com.

Ozarks Public Television conducts its December membership drive from its studios in Strong Hall on the MSU campus. Funds will support the station’s programs. For more information or to volunteer, call (417) 836-3505.

Neighborhood Roundtable, facilitated by the Caring Communities Initiative and Urban Neighborhoods Alliance, presents a panel discussion on predatory lending at 7 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church. 845 S. Dec. 6

Ozarks Public Television broadcasts an encore presentation of its production, “Route 66 The Mother Road” at 6:30 p.m. on Channel 21 or Cable Channel 13.

Dec. 7

Dec. 9

Fighting for Life, a benefit for Toys for Tots, at the Shrine Mosque. Doors open at 5 p.m., and a mixed martial arts competition presented by Cage of Honor begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $40 for cage-side seats. Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts presents “A Christmas Carol” at 7:30 p.m. at the hall. The Nebraska Theatre Caravan performs its adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale. The third annual Dorrel T. Hanks 5K Christmas Run to benefit Developmental Center of the Ozarks starts at 8 a.m. on the square in Ozark. Missouri State University’s Small Business Development Center presents “E-Commerce & Internet Marketing: Best Practices” 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at Glass Hall on the MSU campus. The seminar, which will provide tips, tools and techniques for marketing a business on the Internet, costs $159.
