Calendar of Events: Evangel exhibit showcases inmate artwork

Through March 31

Evangel University presents A View Behind Prison Walls 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Barnett Fine Art and Design Gallery on the Evangel campus. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, comprises 50 drawings and photographs by the inmates at the Onondaga County New York Correctional Facility. The exhibit was put together by Robert Reed, an Ozark resident who was a chaplain at Onondaga for more than 20 years. For more information, call (417) 865-2815, ext. 7395.

March 9

Missouri State University’s Concert Chorale performs at at 7 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2852 S. Dayton Ave. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Guy Webb, choral director, at 836-5182.

March 11

Evangel University’s symphonic band performs at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel auditorium on Evangel’s campus, under the direction of Michael Kolstad. The program includes “Snowcaps” by Richard Saucedo, “Four Scottish Dances” by Malcolm Arnold and “Rejoice in Glorious Hope” by Thomas Smith. Juanita K. Hammons Hall presents trumpeter Nicholas Payton at 8 p.m. March 15. Payton combines influences of his New Orleans heritage with the Young Lions brand of hard bop and a warm jazz sound. Cal LeMon, president of Executive Enrichment, presents “Ending Generational Wars at Work” 8 a.m.–4 p.m. in Room 100 of the Information Commons West at Ozarks Technical Community College, 1001 E. Chestnut Expressway. LeMon will address generational differences and how to bring all age groups together for positive results. Presenters of the event include the Workforce Investment Board, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Career Center, Evangel University, Drury University, Southwest Area Manufacturers Association, OTC, Springfield Area Human Resources Association, Missouri Employers Council and MSU. Sperry Van Ness/Rankin Co. LLC presents a broker forum 9:30–11 a.m. at Highland Springs Country Club for local real estate agents. Participating agents will be able to present information to the group about one current listing that is priced at $1 million or more. Featured properties will be showcased in a PowerPoint presentation, and agents will have a minute and a half to share information. Brokers who do not have listings that qualify for the presentations also are encouraged to attend in order to collect information. American Red Cross and KY3 present the Everyday Heroes breakfast and awards ceremony at 7 a.m. at the Oasis Inn & Convention Center, 2546 N. Anthem BlueCross and BlueShield presents a trivia night and silent auction to benefit the American Heart Association. The event will be held at Knights of Columbus Hall, 2340 W.
