MONDAY, FEB. 2

The Management Development Institute at SMSU will present "Advanced Purchasing" Feb. 2-3, and "Improving Your Purchasing Negotiation Skills," Feb. 4-5. Each seminar will run 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. both days. The cost is $595 for each program, or $550 each if registered for both seminars. For more information, call 836-5667.

Cox Health Systems will offer "Designing a Healthy Work Environment" at 7 p.m. in Foster Auditorium at Cox South. The program will focus on appropriate workstation design, which can optimize comfort and efficiency while eliminating the possibility of personal injury. There is no fee for the program, but pre-registration is required by calling the Women's Center at 886-LADY.

TUESDAY, FEB, 3

Using Photoshop, a one-day workshop for desktop users, will be held 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at University Plaza. The workshop will focus on how to use Photoshop to create, edit, correct, clean up and modify high-impact images for documents. The cost is $179 per person. To enroll, call 800-258-7246.

SMSU's 1998 Breakfast With Champions series begins with Paula Marshall-Chapman, CEO of Bama Pie Companies, who will speak at 7:30 a.m. at John Q's in the University Plaza Hotel, and for the Executive-in-Residence program at 12:30 p.m. in Glass Hall 101. WEDNESDAY, FEB. 4

Women Investors Network will hold a luncheon 12-1 p.m. at Clary's American Grill, 3014-A E. Sunshine. Mark Johnson, of Oppenheimer Funds, will speak on the topic "Why Should I invest Internationally?" The cost of the meal is $7. To RSVP, call Karen McCaslin at 887-0585. The network is a group of area women organized to offer an educational forum for discussing issues related to financial planning.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Troubleshooting, Maintaining and Upgrading PCs, a comprehensive two-day workshop, will be held Feb. 9 and 10 at the Sheraton Hawthorn Park Hotel, 2431 N. Glenstone. The workshop will teach participants to fine-tune PCs for maximum performance, as well as giving tips on troubleshooting and repairs. For more information, call 800-867-4340.

Activity-Based Costing/Business Process Analysis, presented by the Management Development Institute at SMSU, takes place 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Feb. 11 and 12 at University Plaza Hotel. Changes in the management climate, the essentials of activity-based costing and business process analysis are among the topics to be covered. CPE credit is available for CPAs, CMAs and CIAs. Increase Profits Through Marketing, a two-day program presented by the Management Development Institute at SMSU, will be held 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Feb. 17 and 18 at SMSU's Glass Hall. The first day's focus includes the marketing concept, determining goals and objectives and using target marketing. The second day's focus includes understanding the market mix, pricing strategies, and developing and delivering the right message. The cost is $295.
