Sept. 20–21

Evangel University’s music department is host to world-renowned saxophonists Jean-Marie Londeix and William Street for a series of lectures and master classes in the Barnett Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. In a performance at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21, pianist Roger Admiral will join Street to perform a recital. Londeix will present two lectures in French with Street translating. The first lecture, “The Saxophone 20th-century Music,” is 2–3:30 p.m. Sept. 20; the second, “The History of Music Notation,” is 2–3:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Street and Londeix will present a master class 4:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m. Sept. 20. Admission is free and all events are open to the public. For more information, call (417) 865-2815, ext. 7213.

Sept. 21–24

The 33rd Annual Autumn Daze Arts and Crafts Festival is 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Sept. 21–23 and 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Sept. 24 in downtown Branson. The event will feature more than 150 craftspeople from across the United States and on-site food vendors. Several downtown vendors will have sidewalk sales during the festival. Sept. 25–30

Evangel University Artist Series and LifeWorks presents Faith & the Arts Week, a series based on Bonhoeffer’s Call to Discipleship. The highlight of the series will be the feature presentation of “Bonhoeffer,” an opera by Ann K. Gebuhr. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 and 30 in the chapel auditorium, with a brief lecture one hour before each performance; lectures will be in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. Performances are free and open to the public.

Through Sept. 29

Missouri State University’s art and design department presents the Prater Collections Ceramics Exhibition noon–5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; noon–7 p.m. Thursdays; and noon–7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at the Art & Design Gallery. The exhibit features works by several artists, including Ann Draus, Akio Takamori, Adrian Sax. The exhibition is free and open to the public. For more information, call (417) 829-5092.

Sept. 20

Missouri State University President Michael T. Nietzel presents his annual address to the campus community noon–1:30 p.m. in the Plaster Student Union Theater. His address, “Imagining and Making Missouri’s Future,” will review 2005-06 accomplishments, highlight MSU’s new long-range plan and outline goals for 2006-07. Following the presentation, Nietzel will answer questions from the audience. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (417) 836-8500.

Sept. 21

Webster University’s Ozarks Campus presets a live Webcast of “Health Care Mayhem: Why Consumers Must Recapture America’s Health Care System,” at 7 p.m. in campus offices on the second floor of Citizens Union State Bank, located at Battlefield Road and Campbell Avenue. The featured speaker is Charles B. Inlander, president of the People’s Medical Society and founder of the Civil Justice Foundation. He will outline the decline of the American health care system and the erosion of public influence on health care policy. The Missouri Conservation Commission meets in Branson. The commission will have a closed session Sept. 28 at the Bradford Inn. The Sept. 29 open session will be at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Dewey Short Visitor Center, 4600 State Hwy. 165. Missouri State University celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with several events planned. The theme for this year is Truth Beyond the Myths. Events presented by the office of multicultural student services will immerse participants in Hispanic culture, paying homage to the past, present and future of the Hispanic legacy.
