Missouri State University’s modern and classical languages department presents “La Turbulence des Fluides,” at 6 p.m. in Room 206 of Craig Hall. The film is part of the department’s Multilingual Contemporary Film Festival. In the film, seismologist Alice Bradley visits her hometown of Baie-Comeau, Quebec, to investigate the tides. Two Evangel University Jazz Ensembles will perform in a free concert that begins at 7:30 p.m. in Barnett Recital Hall on the EU campus. During the first half of the performance, the student jazz ensemble, under the direction of Matt Warner, will perform several pieces, including “Full Count,” “It’s the Gospel Truth,” and “Take the ‘A’ Train.” In the second half of the program, the faculty jazz ensemble will perform jazz standards and arrangements of sacred music. Monett Chamber of Commerce presents the Monett Festival of Flavors 6–8 p.m. in the commons area at Monett High School. The event features food from Monett-area restaurants and caterers. A benefit dinner and concert to help needy residents in Polk County begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Bolivar Middle School Field House. A complete dinner, with beef brisket or turkey, will be served, and several music groups, including Living Faith Trio and The Texans, will perform. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and younger. All proceeds will go to The Salvation Army and Polk County Community Center for their efforts to help the needy. The History Museum for Springfield-Greene County presents guided trolley tours of historic sites in Springfield 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Tours will last about one hour and will begin in the parking lot of Old City Hall, 830 Boonville Ave. The cost of the tours is $15 for adults and $5 for children; reservations are available by calling the museum at (417) 864-1976. The museum also will extend its hours for the day and will be open 8:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.

Female Leaders in Philanthropy presents “Hunger Hurts Kids,” 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at the Hawthorn Park Hotel, 2431 N. Glenstone Ave. The symposium will highlight the detrimental effects of hunger on children, and what can be done about the problem. J. Larry Brown, executive director of the Institute on Assets and Social Policy and Management, will be the keynote speaker. Pre-registration is required.
