A major outdoor retailer opened its doors in Tennessee over Easter weekend, and visitors saw a litany of designs from a Springfield firm.

Butler, Rosenbury & Partners Architects & Engineers provided retail design, interior design and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design coordination services for Nantahala Outdoor Center's Great Outpost in Gatlinburg.

The 18,000-square-foot outdoor retailer is in the process of obtaining LEED certification, according to a BRPAE news release.

North Carolina-based Nantahala Outdoor Center sells outdoor recreational equipment and offers guided white-water rafting and land-based tours from nine locations in the southeast. The company also has two physical stores and sells outdoor gear through its Web site.

Great Outpost offers family-oriented activities in and around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, such as white-water rafting, kayaking and guided tours.

"The design process for this project was a true collaborative effort ... resulting in an environment that promotes the brand and products of NOC, The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, as well as the culture of the region,” said BRPAE architect and team leader Bruce Adib-Yazdi in the release.[[In-content Ad]]
