McGregor Elementary School
The McGregor Elementary School project is a renovation and addition to the existing school at 1221 W. Madison St. Working on the project for Butler, Rosenbury & Partners are Scott Ward, AIA, project manager; Tim Rosenbury, AIA, partner in charge; and Chris Swan, AAIA. The $4.5 million Springfield Public Schools project, financed by bonds, has an estimated completion date of December 2002 and will be bid in September.
In the course of the project, the multipurpose room and the media center will remain and will be renovated. The addition will comprise 18 classrooms, three special education rooms, three reading instruction rooms, a recreation room, a music room, an art room, administrative offices and support areas.
Unique to this project is a community area for outreach programs. To resolve the issue of adding to two architecturally disparate buildings, the concept for the McGregor Elementary School is an educational community of unique pavilions that are bound together on the exterior by checkerboard-patterned support spaces.
