Located at the corner of Cherry Street and John Q. Hammons Parkway near the Southwest Missouri State University campus, this project involves the renovation of a landmark 48,000-square-foot church. John Miller, PE, and Bruce Holcomb, PE, are the engineers on the project, and the contractor is DeWitt & Associates.|ret||ret||tab|
The original church was built in 1930, with an addition in 1950. The new addition includes a gym and 18-room classroom wing with a new atrium, connecting the old church to the new addition. |ret||ret||tab|
The new building system is structural steel and precast concrete with a composite steel-and-concrete floor system in the classroom wing. Extensive coordination was required to integrate the new and existing structures. This new addition is 52,000 square feet and has an estimated cost of $9.9 million.
