A Branson businessman has purchased an expansive residence on Table Rock Lake, and development is on the way.

Rick Huffman, CEO of HCW, is the buyer of the home called Evergreen from late businessman and philanthropist Robert Plaster's charitable foundation, according to a news release. The purchase price was not disclosed in the release.

“I'm honored to help support the foundation’s important work through this purchase,” Huffman said in the release. “Evergreen has always been a special place, and I’m committed to preserving Robert’s legacy while creating opportunities for others to experience this remarkable property.”

The Evergreen house on the property spans 32,000 square feet. Additionally, the property comprises 365 acres and more than three miles of shoreline.

Restoration efforts have begun on the main residence, which would be opened to the public for tours in the near future, according to the release.

Huffman intends to develop a portion of the acreage into a mixed-use development that includes a condominium, restaurant and spa.

“The house comes first,” Huffman said in the release. "We want to restore Evergreen with the care and attention it deserves. Plans for the surrounding property are still being finalized, and we look forward to sharing more details in the coming months.”

Huffman additionally thanked Steve Plaster and the foundation board, which supports educational opportunities for young conservative students.

How much was the cost and how many affordable housing units could have been constructed for that amount of money? How many small businesses could have been given a hand up for the same amount of money? Possibly, Huffman's intent is indeed to develop the property into individual housing units for the Branson area workers. One never knows. I guess we'll see who benefits.
