A Highlandville business owner was sentenced in federal court last week for failing to pay employee taxes, as well as his own income taxes.
Paul Rose Jr., 46, was sentenced April 11 to two years and three months in federal prison without parole, and he was ordered to pay $586,739 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service, according to a news release from the office of Tammy Dickinson, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri.
Rose owned and operated Newby Enterprises, dba J.B. Enterprises Inc., which produced industrial-size, foam-insulated cardboard boxes for the 3M Co. in Springfield.
Rose pleaded guilty in November to two counts of failing to pay taxes.
He admitted withholding $37,521 in Federal Insurance Contributions Act taxes from employees' paychecks from 2006 to 2009. Figuring in more than $3.2 million in revenues and more than $1.7 million in profits during that time period, Rose failed to pay the IRS $375,631 in taxes, the release said.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Randall Eggert and was investigated by IRS-Criminal Investigation.
