Business groups across the country dumped millions of dollars into recent elections, expecting their support to be more appreciated by Republicans, whom the groups overwhelmingly supported with their contributions.
But the impasse in Congress resulting in a partial government shutdown and threatening a default on the U.S. debt has so upset these same business leaders that they are threatening to put their financial support into primaries specifically to unseat the politicians they were instrumental in getting elected, according to a report in the New York Times.
Much of the ire of business groups is directed against politicians aligned with the Tea Party, which the groups and most Americans polled blame for the discord in Washington that is negatively affecting the entire country and could threaten the stability of a fragile global economy, the Times reported.
