Engineering firm Burns & McDonnell could receive up to $8.5 million in Missouri tax incentives for an expansion of its Kansas City headquarters.
The firm broke ground on the $109 million project on Thursday, with such attendants as Gov. Jay Nixon, according to the Associated Press.
The expansion could house an additional 2,100 employees who would be hired over the next decade, which would bring the firm's Kansas City workforce up to 4,700 people.
In May, the Kansas City Council approved an incentive package that includes industrial development bonds and about $42 million in tax increment financing assistance over 23 years. Incentives from the state Department of Economic Development hinge on meeting job creation and investment criteria.
