Burns & McDonnell launches international division

Kansas City-based engineering and architecture firm Burns & McDonnell is creating an international division with the promotion of key executive Mike Brown.

Brown, the vice president of global facilities, was named president of Burns & McDonnell International, charged with addressing infrastructure needs in developing nations around the world, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

With nearly 20 percent of revenue currently coming from international work, the firm expects to double its international project revenues and triple its international workforce during the next five years.

The business journal said the first target is Canada, where the company has a $600 million backlog, mostly in the transmission and distribution sector.
