State Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Springfield, yesterday was named chairman of the committee that oversees legislation related to licensed professionals in Missouri.
House Speaker Tim Jones, R-Eureka, selected Burlison as chairman of the House Professional Registration and Licensing Committee during the first day of the 97th General Assembly, according to a news release.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to take over the reins of the professional registration committee and to lead the members of my committee as we review and enhance the rules and regulations that govern the way licensed professionals do business in our state,” Burlison, who had served as vice chairman of the committee, said in the release. “We want to ensure we have a regulatory system in place that is not overly burdensome, but at the same time guarantees Missourians have access to safe, high-quality service from chiropractors, dentists, real estate agents or any of the many other professions we oversee.”
As chairman of the committee, Burlison is responsible for leading committee hearings and legislation referred to the committee, which pertains to the regulation of professions and occupations and boards, bureaus and commissions. The committee works with the Missouri Division of Professional Registration to regulate licensed professionals including cosmetologists, veterinarians and physicians.
“Eric is well versed on the issues that impact the many licensed professionals we have operating in Missouri. He is the kind of leader who will work to ensure our regulations are effective without being overly burdensome or intrusive,” Jones said in the release.[[In-content Ad]]
