Burger King operator Restaurant Brands International announced its Russian partner has refused to close 800 restaurants in the country.
Restaurant Brands contacted its local partner, Alexander Kolobov, to close the shops following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"We contacted the main operator of the business and demanded the suspension of Burger King restaurant operations in Russia. He has refused to do so," Restaurant Brands International President David Shear said in a letter to staff.
He said making changes in the country "would ultimately require the support of Russian authorities on the ground and we know that will not practically happen anytime soon."
