Building permit points to plans for Dick's House of Sport at Battlefield Mall

Posted online

A building permit filed with the city of Springfield shows plans for a Dick's House of Sport at Battlefield Mall.

Recently filed plans list Pittsburgh-based Dick's Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS) as the developer for the nearly 118,000-square-foot Dick's House of Sport that would take over a portion of Battlefield Mall recently vacated by Little Rock, Arkansas-based Dillard's Inc. (NYSE: DDS). The space on the southeast side of the mall was one of two spots that Dillard's consolidated this summer into a new location at the former Sears on the west side of the shopping center.

A blueprint included in building permits shows plans for a track and field area that would be part of the store. The Dick's House of Sport concept typically spans around 100,000 square feet and sells sporting goods along with in-store athletic offerings, according to a general description on Dick's website.

A Dick's Sporting Goods investor presentation from August points to 889 total stores in 47 states and Washington, D.C., including 15 locations in Missouri.

Attempts to reach officials with Dick's and Battlefield Mall were not immediately successful by deadline.

OzarksFirst.com was first to report on the building permit filed with the city of Springfield.
