Springfield home builder Sam Bradley hopes to put the finishing touches this spring on a house in the Lions Gate subdivision that also is a fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Hospital.
The four-bedroom, three-bath home, which boasts 3,384 square-feet of living space, also is being used by Bradley to showcase woman-centric building principles in residential construction.
Bradley, of Homes By Sam Bradley, has completed training provided by the Woman-Centric Matters brand of Nebraska-based Design Basics.
Woman-centric principles are geared toward identifying elements women want in their homes in terms of entertaining, organization, flexibility as it relates to changing life stages, and de-stressing, which is specific to areas that foster relaxation and eliminating stress.
Woman-centric methods incorporated in the St. Jude Home include a drop zone and organizational cabinets in the rear of the house, outdoor living areas and master-bathroom design.
Bradley said between 40 and 50 companies are assisting with the home's construction, either as workers or suppliers, and most are donating their contributions.
And even though the housing market is facing challenges, Bradley said it hasn't been particularly difficult to find people willing to help.
"I've really been surprised at how easily the donations have come in," Bradley said. "Many of the people donating have had family members or whoever that have been treated at St. Jude, and they're just giving back."
The 2009 St. Jude Home, located at 1515 W. Gaslight Drive, is expected to be worth at least $350,000, will be raffled by the Home Builders Association of Greater Springield's charitable foundation.
Tickets will go on sale in March, Bradley said, with the winner to be announced during the HBA's annual Parade of Homes in June.
