Brian Hickman

Brian Hickman wishes he had learned public speaking and presentation skills earlier in his career, but even so, he doesn’t seem to be too far behind in the game.

As a CPA and partner at BKD LLP, one of the 10 largest CPA and advisory firms in the United States, Hickman presents seminars on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and “other topics for national and state health care associations and private organizations.”

Hickman works primarily with long-term care facilities providing auditing and consulting services.

He also contributes articles for BKD’s Health Care News newsletter and is co-chair of BKD’s firmwide Long-term Care Center of Excellence.

Hickman said his father has been influential in his career by being a role model with “his work ethic, commitment to excellence and confidence without arrogance.”

Hickman said he is dedicated to his position as a leader at BKD and in the community and hopes to continue to grow his client base.

When he needs advice for a difficult decision, Hickman turns to John Wanamaker, the partner-in-charge at BKD. “He has been a trusted adviser throughout my entire career,” Hickman said.

For much of his career Hickman has served on the executive committee of the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation, a nonprofit organization associated with the National Park Service.

Hickman also serves on the Southern Missouri advisory committee of BKD Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports local charitable organizations, and is a leader in his church.

“I have worked with many community leaders ... to help support Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield and the local community,” he said.
