Brett Favre chosen as speaker for Boys & Girls Clubs fundraiser

Posted online
Retired Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has agreed to deliver the keynote address for Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield’s largest annual fundraiser.

The one-time Super Bowl victor and three-time NFL MVP is scheduled to speak in Springfield 7 p.m. April 24 at University Plaza Convention Center for the 19th Steak & Steak Dinner and Charity Auction, according to the release.

Last year, more than 1,000 attended the event with Louisville Cardinals basketball coach Rick Pitino. Favre also joins past event speakers, including Nick Saban, Tony La Russa, Lance Armstrong, Drew Brees, Bob Knight, Tony Gonzales, Dick Vitale and Peyton Manning.

Since the inaugural fundraiser in 1997, the event has raised over $200,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield. The dinner is designed to bridge the gap between the $30 club members pay per semester and the roughly $1,000 it takes to provide programs for them, the release said.

Drafted in 1991 by the Atlanta Falcons, Favre spent most of his career with the Packers. After stints with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings, he retired after the 2010 season.
