Great Southern Bank, which is operated by Great Southern Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: GSBC), is closing several branches and conducting layoffs.
A statement provided by the company points to nine branch closures and 66 job eliminations across multiple company divisions.
"Like all financial intuitions, Great Southern Bank regularly evaluates our operations as part of routine business maintenance," the statement reads. "On occasion, these evaluations require a calibration of our products, services and workforce to match changing market dynamics."
Three of the branch closures are local, and they all have Oct. 1 closure dates. They are the following:
• 331 South Ave. in downtown Springfield
• 1444 W. State Highway J in Ozark
• 1391 N. Main St. in Nixa
Four states have impacted branches: Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa and Kansas.
"Great Southern is committed to supporting affected associates by offering comprehensive severance packages, transition services and opportunities to apply for open roles within the organization," the statement reads.
Great Southern officials said in the statement that the company's latest footprint review resulted in growth of its live-teller ATM network and the addition of Greenlight debit cards.
During 2025, Great Southern's net income was roughly $71 million, an increase from $61.8 million in 2024, according to past reporting.
GSBC shares closed at $78.41, compared with a 52-week range of $53.76 to $79.76.
A provider of hyperbaric oxygen therapy opened its first Missouri location on Aug. 12 at 1316 E. Republic Road.
