Brazil's government sounded the alarm Saturday over meager sales of Olympics tickets and public apathy just five months before Rio hosts South America's first Summer Games.
Roughly 50 percent of available tickets have sold to date.
According to the AFP news service, ticket issues are being caused by worries over the Zika virus, high crime and a major political crisis already overshadowing the Aug. 5 opening ceremony. A host of Brazilian officials are said to have been involved in a massive embezzlement scheme.
