Local groups continue to initiate relief programs and gather donations for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Branson

Area businesses are sponsoring the Branson Cares Concert & Telethon featuring live performances by 38 entertainers.

The benefit is at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Tri-Lakes Center in Branson and will be aired live 8-10 p.m. on KY3, which donated the equipment, labor and satellite services.

All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Greater Ozarks Chapter and the Salvation Army.

Performers include Jim Stafford, Mickey Gilley, Marie Osmond, Andy Williams, Petula Clark, Carol Lawrence, Ray Stevens, Presley’s Jubilee, Doug Gabriel, Jim Owen, Pam Tillis and New South.

Other markets have signed on to air the benefit across the country and in Canada, including KFJX Fox 14 in Joplin at 8 p.m., KNWA in northwest Arkansas at 10:50 p.m., KARK 4 in Little Rock, Ark., at 10:50 p.m. and KVCT Fox 19 in Victoria, Texas, at 9 p.m.

The concert is produced by the League of Branson Theatre Owners and Show Producers, and other sponsors are the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau and the city of Branson.

Tickets to the concert can be purchased by calling (417) 336-0219.

Convoy of Hope will have trucks on site during the show for donations.

Hammons Hotels

John Q. Hammons Hotels and Resorts LLC is participating in the Red Cross Special Transient Accommodations and Assistance Program, donating mattresses, linens, towels and toiletries to shelters and churches.

Courtyard by Marriott in Springfield is partnering with the Children’s Miracle Network to send hygiene kits to shelters.

Residence Inn Springfield has donated bath mats and toiletries to Convoy of Hope.

Other participating John Q. Hammons hotels have created hospitality rooms for children and families to gather, and donation rooms for people to drop off needed supplies.

Springfield Sister Cities

The Miyama Tea Ceremony group, which performed last weekend at the Japanese Fall Festival at the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden, presented the Springfield Sister Cities Board with a donation for hurricane relief efforts.

The group gave 20,000 yen, or about $180.

The board will determine the direction of the funds at its October meeting.
