Branson schools ask for tax levy increase

Posted online
Branson Public Schools Superintendent Doug Hayter spoke at the Branson Board of Aldermen’s Monday meeting about the proposed 45-cent school tax levy increase that will appear on the April 3 ballot.

The current levy is $3.45 per $100 of assessed valuation.

Officials say the tax levy increase would cover rising operational costs associated with steady enrollment increases.

Voters in 2005 approved a bond issue that didn’t raise the tax levy; the issue funded a $22.8 million expansion of school facilities. The district has not asked for an operating levy increase since 1992.
