Officials from the Branson Public Works Department spoke about its water and sewer budget and proposed rate increases that would take effect Oct. 1. A public hearing on the issue was scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at City Council Chambers.
If approved, the rate increase would be the first in 20 years. Public works officials last night said the increase is necessary because of higher service and maintenance costs.
Also on the agenda:
• The board approved on final passage the last subdivision plat for the Shoppes at Branson Hills. The 92-acre area at the southwest corner of Highway 65 and Branson Hills Parkway will be home to the city’s first Wal-Mart Supercenter, a Sam’s Club and more than a dozen retail shops.
The board also certified a petition from the property’s owners that establishes a community improvement district. That allows stores to collect an additional half-percent sales tax for infrastructure and public improvements.
• The board gave final approval to a master development agreement that creates Branson’s first business park, to be located on Highway 248, west of the Tri-Lakes Center. The 400-acre Branson Commerce Park will be used for commercial, light industrial and residential development.
