The Nelly concert planned for the reopening of the Grand Palace in Branson will no longer be taking place outside after city officials noted a number of violations.
A city of Branson news release claims the announcement of the event and intent to sell tickets was made before a special event application was submitted to the city. The city's Board of Aldermen reviewed the application during a study session Thursday.
The concert was announced on July 4, the city application was dated July 6 and the city received the application on July 7, according to the release.
According to the release, the event application lacked a liquor license application, a tax license, an address of noise issues and a crowd control plan. Additionally, parking issues were addressed.
While the outdoor show was denied, the concert will still be allowed to occur inside of the Grand Palace.
This was originally a concern because of ongoing interior construction delays, but the city has pledged to help theater manager Paul Dunn get the building ready in time for the Aug. 21 concert.
"The city will work diligently to assist the owner of the Palace, Paul Dunn, to get the Grand Palace open so the Nelly concert can be held inside on that date," Branson city administrator Dean Kruithof told the board during the study session.
The city's Planning Department and Planning and Zoning Commission will work with Dunn to make sure the building codes allow for people to be inside, the release said.
On the Grand Palace's Facebook page, Dunn posted about the change, saying the switch would be a "blessing in disguise" because Nelly will be able to perform without inconveniencing other Branson patrons.
Tickets are set to go on sale July 12.[[In-content Ad]]
