Branson Mayor Karen Best was elected to a two-year term on the National League of Cities Board of Directors.
Best joins 54 other board members and executives on the NLC board. The NLC is an advocacy organization representing 19,000 cities, towns and villages with more than 218 million residents, according to a news release.
“This is a great opportunity for Branson because oftentimes, smaller cities are underrepresented when it comes to making policy decisions that impact their communities. I’m looking forward to promoting Branson’s values and beliefs on the national level,” Best said in the release.
The Branson mayor last year joined the NLC’s legislative action committee, and this year, in November, she’ll attend the organization’s annual summit in Los Angeles to represent Branson.
The NLC works to drive federal policy based on issues affecting its member cities, promote innovation to help cities grow and raise the profile of municipalities, among other goals. For instance, in November, the NLC sent a letter to Congress signed by some 800 local elected officials and city advocates calling on legislators to consider federal tax reform’s impact on its member cities.
