Branson construction values top $60 million

Posted online
New construction in Branson has grown for the fourth consecutive year.

New construction values in Branson for the first three quarters of 2004 totaled $61.4 million, equaling the total for all of 2003. This is the fifth time in the last six years that totals have topped the $60 million mark.

In a city of Branson news release, Branson economic development director Mike Rankin said much of the increase can be attributed to the new Branson Landing development on Lake Taneycomo.

“Ever since the news of the Landing has gotten out, I have been inundated with contacts by developers and businesses from around the country interested in Branson because of the additional visitors Branson Landing will generate,” Rankin said.

“I’ve received over 500 inquiries in the past 12 months concerning commercial and residential potential in Branson, and more than 500 demographic CDs were distributed to businesses, companies and developers looking at Branson.”

The city of Branson has seen several major projects permitted this year, including the beginning of a new shopping center, an addition to Branson Meadows Assisted Living, a new branch of Citizens Union State Bank and additional amusement rides at Celebration City.

Plans are also in the works for a new 137-unit apartment complex on Arlene Street in Branson, which Rankin said is a reflection of the increased demand for residential construction to match new commercial building efforts.

Many of the permitted projects reflect a renewed interest in Branson Meadows, which the city has been promoting to developers.

“The variety of new construction in Branson that includes businesses and residential really helps to diversify our economic base and create jobs,” Rankin said.

“Not only are we seeing new businesses coming to town, but also existing businesses expanding, and that’s always a positive sign. They are all positioning themselves to share in the success of Branson Landing.”
