New construction totaled $117.9 million in 2007, according to a city news release. Before 2005, construction hadn’t surpassed $100 million since 1993.
In 2006, Branson construction topped $215 million, breaking the $173.6 million record set in 2005. City officials have attributed the explosive development to the $420 million Branson Landing project, first announced in 2001. Since then, yearly new construction has risen by $175 million.
Major projects permitted in 2007 included: Wal-Mart Supercenter on Branson Hills Parkway; the clubhouse at Payne Stewart Memorial Golf Course at Branson Hills; White River Fish Co. restaurant at Bass Pro Shop’s Branson Landing store; Mount Pleasant Winery on Green Mountain Drive; and the Tanger Mall addition.
In December, new construction hit $2.6 million for the month, with the help of two substantial projects – Brookside Mini-Golf at 2925 Shepherd of the Hills Expressway and a new retail center on Branson Hills Parkway, west of Target, according to the release.
