A host of Highway 76 property owners in Branson have gone to the city with plans to create a community improvement district.
If approved, the 76 Entertainment Community Improvement District would create a sales tax of up to 1 percent to fund improvements along the strip.
The Branson Board of Aldermen held a first reading to approve the district Feb. 23.
The move by the board follows a petition certified in December that featured signatures from the owners of more than 50 percent of real property owners within the
proposed CID, which would contain roughly 78 acres stretching from Gretna Road on the west to Glory Road on the east, as well as Gretna to the north and Cedar Park Road to the south.
According to the
board’s agenda, 26 property owners representing $6.6 million in assessed property signed the petition. They include the owners of The Track Family Fun Parks, Presleys’ Inc. and Hollywood Wax Museum-Branson LLC
The CID would bring in an estimated $400,000 in revenue per year, followed by $32,000 per year after the costs of the district’s formation are reimbursed.
The funding generally would be used to maintain and operate attractions and improvements for an interactive promenade in the entertainment district corridor.
