The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Mid-America yesterday selected Branson as host site for its 40th anniversary awards gala.
Scheduled Oct. 1, 2016, at the Branson Convention Center, Branson is the first city outside of St. Louis or Kansas City to host the Mid-America Emmy Awards for broadcast media, according to a news release.
Stacey Woelfel, president of the regional Emmy event, said Branson has been on the organizers’ radar for several years, and part of the appeal is seating for up to 1,000 attendees.
“Our focus in Branson has been to bring new, major events like the Mid-America Emmy Awards to our city so people have the opportunity to experience Branson and all things our city has to offer,” said Jeff Siefried, president and CEO of the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau, in the release.
During the event weekend, NATAS Mid-America officials have planned an inaugural golf tournament, workshops for media professionals and a visit to Silver Dollar City for attendees’ families. SDC has agreed to sponsor the event, the release said.
“Bringing this prestigious event to Branson will have a significant economic impact as well, as media professionals, their colleagues and families visit our hotels, shows, attractions and restaurants,” SDC Attractions President Brad Thomas said in the release.
The 39th annual Mid-America Emmys is scheduled Oct. 3 at the newly renovated St. Louis Marriott Downtown, during which the 2016 hosts will be announced, the release said. Game show host Todd Newton and actress Amy Paffrath are this year’s hosts.[[In-content Ad]]
