During its meeting last night, the Branson Board of Aldermen approved contracts with six area nonprofits to provide services for the city.
Applications for the organizations were reviewed by a committee comprising members of the board, city staff and the community.
According to a news release, the organizations, which will be paid by the city, are:
- Branson Arts Council, $22,000 to provide Branson's citizens, particularly children, affordable opportunities to see local fine art;
- Christian Action Ministries, $21,000 to provide temporary emergency assistance for those in need - especially food goods - and often with direction by the city;
- Women's Crisis Center, $10,000 to institute a 24-hour shelter, a need by the Branson Police Department when responding to domestic violence calls;
- Ozarks Area Community Action Corp., $9,000 to provide temporary assistance for those need, often with direction by the city;
- Salvation Army, $6,000 to provide temporary emergency help for the needy in the community; and
- Free Medical Clinic, $3,000 to provide assistance with non-narcotic medications, particularly when an absence of the drugs presents a life-threatening situation.
