Branson Board of Aldermen approves contracts with nonprofits

During its meeting last night, the Branson Board of Aldermen approved contracts with six area nonprofits to provide services for the city.

Applications for the organizations were reviewed by a committee comprising members of the board, city staff and the community.

According to a news release, the organizations, which will be paid by the city, are:
  • Branson Arts Council, $22,000 to provide Branson's citizens, particularly children, affordable opportunities to see local fine art;
  • Christian Action Ministries, $21,000 to provide temporary emergency assistance for those in need - especially food goods -  and often with direction by the city;
  • Women's Crisis Center, $10,000 to institute a 24-hour shelter, a need by the Branson Police Department when responding to domestic violence calls;
  • Ozarks Area Community Action Corp., $9,000 to provide temporary assistance for those need, often with direction by the city;
  • Salvation Army, $6,000 to provide temporary emergency help for the needy in the community; and
  • Free Medical Clinic, $3,000 to provide assistance with non-narcotic medications, particularly when an absence of the drugs presents a life-threatening situation.
