Energy giant BP posted a 41% drop in third quarter net profits.
Net profits came to $2.3 billion, compared with $3.8 billion a year earlier.
However, analysts had expected $2 billion in net profits.
The earnings report comes shortly after CEO Bob Dudley announced plans to retire.
