Boy trips, punches hole in $1.5M painting

Posted online
Talk about a bad field trip. A Taiwanese schoolboy is in the spotlight after a school field trip to a Taipei art exhibit left a “fist sized” hole in a $1.5 million painting.

CNN reports a 12-year-old boy was admiring the Leonardo da Vinci-themed show at Taipei's Huashan 1914 creative arts center when he tripped and put his arm out to steady himself. The boy didn’t fall, rather catching himself on the 350-year-old painting "Flowers" by Paolo Porpora.

"The boy was probably too concentrated in listening to what the guide was saying, and therefore stumbled," Sun Chi-hsuan, one of the exhibition's organizers, told CNN.

The cost of repairs to the damaged painting would be covered by insurance, meaning the boy and his family won't be asked to pay up.

The painting is undergoing restoration by experts in Taipei.
