Jay Guffey, CEO of Mercy Rehab Hospital in Springfield says he likes “Team of Rivals” by Doris Kearns Goodwin because it shows Abraham Lincoln’s leadership abilities. After being inaugurated, Lincoln surrounded himself with people who didn’t think like him or agree with him, but he listened to their opinions before making decisions. “You have to be open to listen. People are going to disagree with you, but you have to be prepared to listen to both sides of the story, take that information and then use that and make the best decision that you can going forward,” he says. Guffey is a Springfield Business Journal 2018 Healthcare Champion honoree.
