Bolivar Technical College is set to receive a $343,000 state grant.
The funding is part of $5 million issued statewide to shore up nursing education programs at 13 Missouri colleges and universities, according to a news release.
“These financial investments are evidence of Missouri’s commitment to invest in the pipeline of future nurses,” said Lori Scheidt, executive director of the Missouri State Board of Nursing, in the release. “Education is the foundation for addressing the nursing workforce shortage. These funds allow nursing programs to increase that pipeline and to leverage advanced technology.”
The grant funding was part of a special appropriation to the Missouri State Board of Nursing recommended and approved by Gov. Mike Parson, the release notes.
The funds are earmarked for Bolivar Technical College and the other grant recipients to increase faculty salaries in their nursing programs, implement scholarship and nursing educator programs, and invest in new clinical simulation technology and equipment.
Missouri State University's West Plains campus was picked for a $359,000 grant, and Missouri Southern State University in Joplin was tapped for $347,252 in funding, according to the release.
