Boeing may reap $229M in new subsidies from Mo.

Posted online
The state of Missouri will hand Boeing $229 million over 18 years if the aerospace giant grows its current St. Louis-area workforce by 2,000 jobs, according to details of the state’s incentive package.

However, according to an analysis by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Boeing could still pocket millions just for maintains its current workforce. In fact, it could collect some subsidies even if workers are laid off.

The deal reflects worries that Boeing may lay off a large percentage of its Missouri workforce if its major fighter programs wind down later in the decade.

“We want them to retain their current employment and create 2,000 new jobs. That’s our primary objective,” said Mike Downing, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
