Blunts asks for 800 Bridges plan by Oct. 1

Posted online
Gov. Matt Blunt has set an Oct. 1 deadline for the Missouri Department of Transportation to solidify its plan to repair 802 of the state’s lowest-rated bridges.

In a letter addressed to Missouri State Highways and Transportation Commission Vice Chairman Jim Anderson, who also is president of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Blunt is asking for an update on the project’s timeline and an estimated construction start date, according to a news release.

“While I know that the Missouri Department of Transportation is working diligently to get this vital initiative under way, I urge you to bring this procurement to a swift conclusion so that all Missourians will experience the benefits soon,” Blunt said in the letter.

The “800 Bridges” project was announced nearly two years ago and has been delayed due in part to volatile financial conditions, the release said. The project would replace or repair at least one bridge in every Missouri county. A map of the projects is available here.
