Blunt urges tax cut on military pensions

Posted online
Gov. Matt Blunt visited Springfield’s VFW Post 3404 Jan. 7 to announce his plans to encourage the General Assembly to eliminate state taxes on military retirement benefits.

If passed, Missouri would be the 13th state to cut taxes on military pensions out of the 41 states that have an income tax, according to a Blunt news release.

The tax elimination would be the fourth major cut since Blunt took office. In August, a state sales tax exemption law for manufacturers went into effect; legislation last year ended the state tax on Social Security for Missouri senior citizens and other groups; and Blunt signed a bill last year that allows Missourians to deduct the cost of their health insurance premiums from their adjusted gross incomes.
