Blunt selects new chief of staff

Posted online
Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt Thursday announced that Edward R. Martin Jr. will serve as his new chief of staff, beginning Sept. 1.

Martin will replace Ken McClure, who resigned from the post July 28 to take the job of associate vice president for administrative services at Missouri State University.

“Ed brings an exceptional legal, professional and personal background to this job and has shown the ability to bring diverse groups of people together to get results, a skill that will serve him well in our state Capitol,” Blunt said in a news release.

Martin, 36, is from St. Louis and currently serves as chairman of the St. Louis City Board of Election Commissioners. He is a founding partner of St. Louis law firm Martin & Simmonds.

Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from College of Holy Cross in Massachusetts, a juris doctorate with health law certificate and a master’s of applied ethics in health care from Saint Louis University.

He serves on the Missouri Chamber of Commerce Leadership Missouri Board, writes regular columns for The Arch City Chronicle and has been involved with a number of organizations, including Boy Scouts of America and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
