Blunt recommends more funding for Parents as Teachers

Posted online
Gov. Matt Blunt Tuesday said he will recommend a $2 million funding increase for Missouri’s Parents as Teachers program.

Blunt will support the additional funding in the budget he will present to the General Assembly later this month. The increase would bring total funding for the program to $34.3 million for fiscal 2008.

Parents as Teachers helps parents prepare their children for academic success by providing parents with child development knowledge and parenting support. The program started in Missouri in 1981 and later expanded to all 50 states.

All Missouri families with children under the age of 3 are eligible to participate in the program.[[In-content Ad]]
