Blunt calls for sprinklers at long-term care facilities

Posted online
Gov. Matt Blunt has called for sprinkler systems to be required at all long-term care facilities in Missouri, per a recommendation from the departments of Health and Senior Services and Mental Health.

The recommendations are part of a full review of fire safety and related regulations that Blunt requested following a Nov. 27 fire that killed 11 people at southwest Missouri’s Anderson Guest House.

Blunt is directing the Department of Health and Senior Services to develop a timeline to implement the new sprinkler regulations.

The departments’ report also recommends facilities be equipped with only approved fire-alarm systems. Blunt will consider that and all remaining recommendations.
