The In-Case-of-Emergency plan gives emergency first responders a way to contact a family member or close friend if a victim is unable to provide his or her own information.
Blunt asks citizens to enter emergency contact information into their cell phones and label it “ICE.”
“Most Missourians no longer carry emergency contact information in their wallets or purses, but most do carry cell phones,” Blunt said in a news release. “It’s natural that, with increased technology, Missourians store their information in their phones.”
The initiative is modeled after a similar plan created by East Anglian Ambulance in England.
The Missouri Department of Public Safety reminds citizens that participation is voluntary and free.
