Blues ask STL to pay millions for Scottrade Center upgrades

Posted online
The St. Louis Blues ownership group is asking for millions from the city to upgrade the Scottrade Center.

At a news conference with Mayor Francis Slay, Blues Chairman Tom Stillman said the city plans to issue bonds to be paid back over 28 years using community improvement district and tax revenue. Under a bill to be introduced at the city's Board of Aldermen this week, St. Louis would pay $4 million a year until 2048, or about $112 million in total.

During the bond process, the Blues plan to invest $50 million in cash into the upgrades. Stillman said event coordinators, including the NCAA, have said they will no longer book the Scottrade Center without upgrades. Excluding interest, the upgrades could cost $138 million.
