After serving Southwest Missouri since 1929, BluCurrent Credit Union is building on its legacy by betting on the future. CEO Craig Tabor highlights the member-owned organization’s commitment to young talent, big goals and new branches.
Young Professionals
Launched in 2023, BluCurrent’s Young Professionals program is one of the credit union’s greatest assets. It provides education and hands-on learning for employees under 40 as they prepare for leadership roles.
Tabor notes that many of BluCurrent’s senior managers have been in their current jobs for as long as 20 years. A proactive approach to developing young talent means that new employees will be ready to “slide into leadership roles when their opportunity comes.”
Inspired by similar programs from the Cornerstone Credit Union League and top business schools, Young Professionals is helping BluCurrent recruit ambitious young hires and support their success.
Growth and Personalization
With over $368 million assets as of May 2025, BluCurrent is aiming for $500 million in coming years. That growth isn’t just about numbers, Tabor says. It’s about creating opportunities “to provide more for our membership.”
Growing the credit union means expanding the capacity for personalization, technology and enhanced member support.
A focus on personalization is at the heart of BluCurrent’s ambitions. AI-enabled tools will help members make smarter financial decisions in real time. From peer-to-peer transactions to secure, intuitive banking, Tabor envisions a future of fast, flexible service that helps members thrive.
New Branches
BluCurrent moved into its new 45,000-square-foot headquarters at 4520 South National in Springfield in 2024, bringing multiple departments under one roof for the first time. The new facility includes more space for collaboration and innovation. With natural light, Ozarks-inspired design, and a gym and coffee lounge for employees, the space reflects BluCurrent’s values inside and out.
Two new branches are also on the way. Both slated to open within the next 12 months, they include a Republic location next to Corwin Ford and a Springfield branch on West Sunshine near Walmart.
Tabor emphasizes the value of expanding BluCurrent’s brick-and-mortar presence. Even folks who use online banking appreciate having access to physical branches and ATM machines when they need them.
It’s just one more way in which BluCurrent Credit Union remains rooted in community as it continues to evolve.
