BluCurrent Credit Union CEO to retire

Posted online
The longtime president and CEO of BluCurrent Credit Union has set a summer retirement date.

Steve Pierson, who joined the credit union in 1975 and was named its top executive in 1977, is scheduled to retire from the post June 30, according to a news release.

Craig Tabor, executive vice president of the credit union, has been tabbed to take the reins upon Pierson's retirement.

During his tenure, Pierson oversaw an expansion from an employee-based credit union to one with a membership base spanning 10 southwest Missouri counties; an August 2011 name change from Postal Federal Community Credit Union; and location growth to six branches.

When Pierson joined the company, BluCurrent had one branch, $8 million in assets and about 3,500 members; it now has more than $148 million in assets and nearly 20,000 members, according to the release.

“I’ll miss working with the BluCurrent team, some of whom I’ve worked closely with for more than two decades,” said Pierson, the second president of the 84-year-old credit union, in the release. “But I’m really looking forward to the extra time I’ll soon have to spend with my wife and eight grandchildren.”

Tabor, who is currently being groomed for the top role, joined the management team of BluCurrent in 2004.

“I consider it a tremendous honor to be chosen to help lead such a great credit union,” Tabor said in the release. “I’m so thankful for all Steve has done to prepare me for this transition."
