Bloomberg falls for fake Nancy Reagan report

Mrs. Gipper endorsing a Democrat for president? Something seem off there? That’s because it’s a fake news story — but Bloomberg News only found that out after publishing it.

Politico reports the story originated on fake news site NationalReport.net.

Bloomberg’s piece, headlined "Nancy Reagan gives her endorsement to... Hillary Clinton," quoted a supposed Drudge Report saying the former first lady told the History Channel series "First Ladies In Their Own Words" that it's time for a female president.

However, Reagan never said that. The spoof site was picked up by DrudgeReport.com.co, which doesn't seem to be connected to the actual Drudge Report.

Bloomberg deleted its piece within minutes and issued a statement: "This story has been retracted. We fell for a hoax. Apologies."
